The event, which was held at the beautiful Madina Astroturf, brought together seven renowned institutions in the healthcare industry.
The institutions present were; DCL Laboratory Products Ltd/Zutron Pharmaceuticals Ltd (host), International Maritime Hospital (Imah), University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), Trust Hospital, Ga East Hospital, University of Ghana Hospital and West Africa Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP).
The event began with four obstacle games; lime and spoon, sack race, sprint and apple bobbing, which were non-scoring.
The football gala continued right after the four obstacle games. After keenly contested matches played from group stages through to the semifinals, it was time for the moment the spectators at the venue had been waiting for, the final game.
The final fixture was between DCL/Zutron against Ga East Hospital. The game ended goallessly, and the winner was to be determined through a penalty shootout. At the end of the penalty shootout, DCL Laboratory Products Ltd/ Zutron Pharmaceuticals emerged as winners of the maiden edition of the Unity Games.
Prizes were presented to the institutions and individuals for their outstanding performances.
The event also created an opportunity for people to get free health screenings at the venue.
The event promises to be bigger and better next time.
